Handcrafted by artisans, these urns are crafted from sustainably harvested fallen Dalbergia sissoo trees in India. Color, wood grain, and knots may vary from piece to piece due to the natural qualities of wood. What size urn do I need? The general rule of thumb is 1 lb of live body weight = 1 cubic inch of ash. Cubic capacity of an urn is calculated by multiplying the length, width, and depth of the inner compartment of the urn. While this formula will work for most individuals or pets, we do recommend sizing up if the body weight is very close to the maximum capacity to ensure that there is enough room for all of the ashes. Urns with Photo Windows Some of our options include a photo window or photo frame section. These items are intended for you to insert your own photo of your loved one or pet. The size of the photo window area will vary from one urn style to the next. Be sure to pay close attention to the orientation of the photo area (i.e. portrait vs landscape) as the orientation cannot be changed on the urn itself. The access to change the photo will vary by style but most of our urns have separate photo areas to allow for photo changes without having to access the urn compartment. How To Open For Insertion of Ashes Four Screw Panel vs Single Screw Panel Our wood urns have two different styles of opening - a plate that is held in with four screws or a single screw sliding panel. If your item has four screws on the bottom or back of the urn, you will need to remove all four screws and the wood plate should fall out when flipped over. If the plate does not come out, a thin flat edge may be inserted into the gap to act as a prying bar to "pop out" the plate. If your item has a single screw on the bottom or back of the urn, simply remove the screw then pull out on the edge that the screw was removed from. The panel should slide out to reveal the urn compartment. The initial opening may be stiff. Engraving Options Brass Plaque On items with the option for brass plaque, the engraving will be done direct into the metal. This style of engraving will come through typically as a slightly lighter area of text. Plaques will be adhered to the wood with double-sided tape. Brass Plaque Fonts The two font styles we offer for brass plaques are Block (Americana) and Script (OPTI Alto Greeting). It is not recommend to do all capital letters in script for optimal legibility. Direct Into Wood Another engraving option is direct into wood where we burn the text deeply into the wood's surface. The resulting text will be slightly darker than the surrounding wood. Since this type of engraving is permanent, items engraved in this manner would typically not be eligible for return. Direct Into Wood Fonts The two font styles we offer for direct into engraving are Block (Book Antiqua) and Script (Tangerine). It is not recommend to do all capital letters in script for optimal legibility.
