Eight Piece Cap Traditional Newsboy Fashion The Eight Piece Panel Cap is our fullest-body cap style in the Newsboy Collection. The voluminous style is comprised of 8 panels or pieces which symbolize a spinning wheel wheel traditionally used to make fleece into yarn. The cap was traditionally worn by newspaper boys and girls in the 1920’s and 1930’s, hence the name it is most commonly known by, and today it is worn by celebrities and fashionistas the world over. Our version of this classic style has a flat peak with a concealed stud button, and a fabric covered button on the crown known as a Squatcho. Full Bodied 8 Piece Cap Voluminous Design Flat Peak with Press Stud Squatcho (button) on Crown Available in 100% Wool Fabrics Fully Lined with Viscose Gentle Dry Clean Suitable for All Genders Vintage Cap Iconic Flat Cap Style With its full-bodied fit, the Vintage Cap is designed with tradition and authenticity in mind. A classic Flat Cap style for centuries, this iconic flat cap style is one of our best-selling flat cap styles since its introduction in the 1960’s. The concealed stud-button, flat peak protects the face from the rain, wind and sun making this cap a perfect accessory for running errands and enjoying leisurely pursuits. Ideal for cooler seasons, the Vintage Cap in Tweed is an essential accessory staple designed to elevate any look. Each piece is crafted using authentic, high-quality Irish & Scottish Harris woolen tweeds. Full-Bodied Style Flat Peak Concealed Stud Fastener on Peak Available in 100% Irish Wool, Harris Wool, or Irish Linen High-Quality Viscose Lining Gentle Dry Clean Suitable for All Genders Donegal Touring Cap The Donegal Touring Cap Tweed is a streamlined, tailored fit cap ideal for those who prefer a slimmer silhouette. The style sports an integrated, stitched-down curved peak and a deep back for a secure fit. This style is inspired by the long-ago common sight of men riding their bikes whilst going on social and work errands. Whereas we do not recommend our Donegal Touring cap for cycling these days, it is ideal for keeping the sun from your eyes and keeping your head dry as you go for walks, run errands, and take leisurely drives. Each piece is crafted using authentic, high-quality Irish & Scottish Harris woolen tweeds. Wool is an ideal, natural fabric for headwear as it naturally warm, breathable, stain resistant, crease resistant and above all sustainable. Tailored Fit Style Deep Back Integrated Curved Peak Available in 100% Irish Wool, Harris Wool, or Irish Linen Fully Lined with Viscose Lining Gentle Dry Clean Suitable for All Genders
As I'm often reminded (by friends, relatives, co-workers, sales clerks, etc), I'm officially old. Which is fine, because it beats the alternative. And I'm ready to embrace this in an open and unequivocal manner to let people that I'm a cantankerous codger in a more subtle and refined way than me sending back soup because it's too hot, shouting at kids to stay off my lawn, or complaining endlessly about just how much contemporary music sucks. How better to do so than by getting myself an official 'old guy' cap.Amazon has a loads of options of these caps ranging in price from about $5 for cheap-ass mass-produced Chinese caps to over $100 for ridiculous hipster doofus leather versions. I chose Hanna over the cheap-ass mass-produced Chinese options or ridiculous hipster doofus options for several reasons - not the least being I wanted something that wasn't the product of slave or child labor or something that would make me look like a moron who would spend $40 on avocado toast. The good:* The cap looks great. I mean, it really looks great. Those cheap-ass Chinese caps often look quite hinkey (asymmetrical, weirdly constructed, etc).* Absolutely superior quality. All of the panels are aligned, there are no stitching errors, and every part has premium material - not some fake cloth containing multi-syllabic chemicals slapped together in a rush.* It is warm. The cap is very good at keeping the old loaf nice and toasty on cold days.* This is authentic. I don't mean that it looks authentic or is based on an authentic design (though it does and is). I mean this is authentic in that it was made by Irish professionals, using Irish materials, in Ireland. That's a big difference than some cap made by forced labor in a sweatshop using flimsy polyester blends in a mega-factory supplying every Chinese label. The bad:* The size can be tricky. Hanna doesn't offer exact hat sizes (i.e. 7 1/2), instead they have five size ranges (Small - XXL), each of which covers two to three sizes. This means some folks like me may not get a great fit off the rack. My head measures 22 5/8 inches which put me right at the border between small and medium for Hanna. Small was too tight, but medium was a skosh too big, so I had to sew in a bit of extra padding along the sweatband. But now it fits as if it were bespoke.* The color you get may not match the color you selected. I ordered the Hunter Green herringbone which in the picture is shown as being a somewhat bright green with a clearly visible white herringbone pattern. However, the one I got is a very brownish olive green with bits of orange plaid and a very subtle pale green herringbone pattern. I have no idea if this is because of normal variation in tweed color, the vendor selecting the nearest match for an out-of-stock color, the sample photo having poor color quality, or the seller simply not paying attention, but the cap I got is not the cap I selected. The good news is that it turns out that was a happy mistake, because this color actually looks way better. The ugly:* The cost. At between $60 and $80 per cap these are a bit steep and many people will not find them affordable. But then again, the build, material, and quality are more than worth this cost. I have no doubt this cap will last for a very long time - quite likely outlast me, while those cheap-ass Chinese versions may be fortunate to survive the first light rain. All in all this choice was a no-brainer for me. The cheaper caps absolutely cannot match up in any way while the more expensive caps not only have a declining return on investment, but are also just obnoxiously stupid (like the hipster doofuses who wear them). And while other reputable brands like Sterkowski or Mucros or Hanly may be as good as this Hanna, I simply cannot believe they are any better. Now please, make sure the soup is the correct temperature, avoid treading on my lawn, and stop playing that rotten new music.
